The Bonn service clubs of Soroptimist International and ZONTA International, together with UNWomen Deutschland e.V., the Evangelical Church of Bonn and the Equal Opportunities Office of the City of Bonn, will literally take their message to the streets in a candlelight parade on Monday, November 25, 2024, starting at 4 pm. The start is at 4 pm on the square in front of the Kreuzkirche. Everyone is welcome to join the procession as it makes its way through the pedestrian zone to Bonn’s market square.
From 4:30 p.m., Bonn’s market square will also be lit up with the women’s symbol of 365 lights. Every second candle will be a grave light – as a symbol of the fact that almost every other day a woman dies at the hands of her partner or ex-partner.
With a live concert by singer Marie Enganembem, passers-by in Bonn are invited to light a candle on the market square and donate to the Bonn Women’s Shelter. This is all part of the “Orange the World” campaign initiated by the UN in 1991, which starts on November 25 and ends every year on December 10, Human Rights Day.
